Hey Y’all!

My name’s Joe and I'm a Mental Health Journalist based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Through my struggles with anxiety, depression, trauma and addiction, I wish to show others, that everyone is capable of improving their circumstances.

I'm sharing my story, as an experiment, to see if it is possible live a life of health, wellness, and happiness.

Anxiety Reddit: My Response to "Medication or Not"

I felt like sharing a reddit I'm a part of:

By LogMuffins:

I have been off of meds for about 15 years. At one time or another I was wildly over medicated and ultimately turned to medication, exercise, and diet to manage the bulk of my anxiety which worked for 15 years.

I consistently have issues staying at a job. I am in IT and am generally competent when it comes to my work. I've never been fired but I leave positions in under a year since I left my last long term job of 6 years. I seem to be liked and get new jobs easily but it would be nice to not feel this flight requirement that leads me to finding new work.

I am beginning to suffer what looks like memory issues but that more than likely an evolving processing delay and attention related disorder.

Does anyone have experience with this type of scenario - what do you do that works for you?

The Joseph Ng Publishing House:

I was using Atavan, Venlaxafine and Mirtazapine to deal with anxiety not too long ago. I felt totally overmedicated...and western doctors just fed me pills.

I started feeling gut rot...the same internal ulcers and such as when I was addicted to ecstasy and alcohol.

Anyways, I found that psychiatry and meds helped in a limited way...but also they were too singular in their approach.

After many support groups, pyschologists, psychiatrists and counsellors...therapeutically... continually learning to master Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy and emotional and mental Mindfulness has been benficial when used in conjunction with one another. I still use Mirtazapine daily...but would like to ween myself off eventually.

Further to that, I have a daily meditation regiment and utilize brainwave entrainment technology throughout the day (this is where the primary focus of my research now lies).

Physical exercise and Wim Hoff's Breathing techniques, are what I use currently for my physical health...though I have limited time with my research and balancing a publishing upstart. I incorporate as much as I can for the natural hormones released in the brain.

Moreover, nutritionally, green drinks or vitamin shakes, a high dosage of Omega 3 fishoils (those high in DHA for brain function), and moderate amounts of cannibus intake, are all natural approaches to balancing the brain's function and chemicals.

Moreover in Life, I have a wife and friends that are unmatched...and for the most part...everyone in my life is supportive of my goals.

Each of these aspects is crucial and when combined, they work in conjunction with one another in an exponential way.

However, if you are taking a singular approach...you're doomed to fail.

I have been attempting to solve my anxiety issue for nearly a decade now...and only recently do I feel like I'm starting to gain a sense of life, self and purpose...and my path is only beginning.

For the first time...my future is bright.

For anyone that thinks they're going to take a pill by seeing a doctor and be healed...Good luck with that.

It's a good first step...but if you're not prepared for years of work...get ready for a life of numbness and medication.
