Hey Y’all!

My name’s Joe and I'm a Mental Health Journalist based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Through my struggles with anxiety, depression, trauma and addiction, I wish to show others, that everyone is capable of improving their circumstances.

I'm sharing my story, as an experiment, to see if it is possible live a life of health, wellness, and happiness.

In  documenting my life I'm highly curious as to how I’m to develop as a thought leader and entrepreneur, goals that I hold dear to me. In this journey of recording,  I’m going to share habits that I've developed that have helped me. On top of that list is meditation. Meditation was one of the first practices suggested to me when I was first attempting to overcome addiction,  anxiety, heavy depression and panic attacks.

I first read about it in an anxiety workbook. From there, I began dabbling with it more and more, eventually learning about mantras and different meditation techniques.

Benefits of Meditation

The benefits of meditation are increased focus and calmness in ones life. An increased ability to let things go quickly. An increased ability to forgive hurts, upsets and daily stresses more easily.

Stress decreases. Mood improves. Brain function and mental clarity are increased.

People have misconceptions about meditation viewing it solely as a spiritual or religious practice. Although this can be true and helpful in those practices, it is not necessarily correlated or tied absolutely to spirituality or religion.

I believe an atheist or person with an agnostic view person too can benefit from meditation.

All that's needed is a want to decrease stress and increase peace.

My Routine

Over the last few years, I’ve developed my own technique for meditation. I meditate for 20 minutes a day. I focus on a chakra each day of the week with a healing stone correlated to that chakra. By the  end of the week I have focussed on, and cleared each of the 7 chakra's in my body.

Again this is a technique, that I’ve developed for myself and that I’m comfortable with but may not be a practice that is optimized for you. Some people like to chant a mantra under their breath while meditating. And some prefer different times of the day such as early morning or in the evening before bed or both.

I usually like to do a morning yoga class and if I don’t then I’ll perform a morning routine including meditation before I work on my business.

If I were a complete beginner I would start with some guided meditation programs. Check my resources page here for some good suggestions.

Anyways, hope you'll start if you haven't and if you have share what some of your routines or best practices are.

Peace and Love.
